MD/JD Challenge
Greater Greensboro Society of Medicine vs. members of the Greensboro legal community
Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2:30 p.m.
Page High School
201 Alma Pinnix Drive, Greensboro

Featuring a coaching showdown by UNC legend Phil Ford and Duke star Gene Banks! Click here for team rosters.

DSC_8747The game’s real winner was Sanctuary House, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of adults living with serious mental illness. The funds raised through Scrubs vs. Suits will specifically support the organization’s growing employment program, which helps members gain the skills they need to find purpose in the workforce again.

Many thanks to everyone who supported this important cause by coming to the game, bidding on an auction item, or becoming a sponsor. Click here for the organizations and individuals who are supporting us this year!

The event included fun for the whole family, with a silent auction for adults; pompoms, magic and activities for kids; and yummy concessions for all, featuring treats from Sanctuary House’s bakery, A Sweet Success.

Essay contest winners “have the power”

Earlier this spring, the Alliance recognized Title I middle school students who excelled in our annual anti-bullying writing contest.

This year’s theme, “I have the power,” encouraged students to think about bullying and use their power to help eliminate it in our schools and communities. Students could write a poem, essay or personal narrative (fiction or non-fiction) about a time they used their power to stand up for themselves, a friend, or even a stranger. Winners received a commemorative plaque, certificate, and monetary gift card from Target.

2016 essay contestOverall winners included: First place – David Nguyen, Allen Middle School; Second Place – Joseph Solomon, Northeast Guilford Middle School; and Third Place –  Selene Berry of Guilford Middle School. Pictured are the three winners from Northeast Guilford Middle School.

Many thanks to Katie Edmunds, VP of Health Promotions, for heading up the essay contest.

Scholarship recipients honored

2016 Scholarship WinnersOn March 24, the Alliance honored three outstanding young people with scholarships for pursuing careers in the health sciences.

The scholarships were awarded to Brande Oakley and Keith Lansberry, both students at the UNCG School of Nursing, and Princess Collins, a graduating senior attending James B. Dudley High School. She will study biology and health administration at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Pictured are Brande, Keith and Princess and Scholarships Chair Teresa John. Many thanks to Teresa and her assistant, Susan Stahl, for spearheading the scholarship process.
