The Greater Greensboro Society of Medicine/Alliance Endowment Fund advisory committee met on June 8, 2011 to award its 2011 grant allocations. The Advisory Committee for the fund consists of Dr. Ned Bryan, Chair, Dr. Mary John Baxley, Dr. Todd F. Early and Alliance Representatives Uma Avva, Teresa John and Kimberly Kossover. The committee was not able to fully fund all the grant requests but they hope that the following allocations will be of great benefit to the organizations.

$2,500 – Freedom House

$1,800 – Guilford County Department Of Public Health

$1,000 – Internal Medicine Teaching Program

$1,500 – Smoke Free Guilford

$2,000 – Out of the Garden Project

$1,000 – Piedmont Health Services & Sickle Cell Agency
Help sponsor National Men’s Health Day

$1,000 – Restoration Place
Providing affordable counseling services to women who would not otherwise be able to receive the help they need

$2,000 – Sanctuary House
Supplement cost of supplying healthy meals to persons with severe mental illnesses

The fund has supported community agencies since 1985. With this year’s allocations the total amount given by the physician members and Alliance is $187,486.00. Allocations are made each year in June. While all endowment funds have suffered losses during the past few years, the needs have continued to grow. If you know of a special health related need in our community that is not being met, please contact the Medical Society in March, 2012. It is the mission of this fund to promote awareness of health related needs and to support those needs through charitable giving. Anyone wishing to honor a loved one or a community physician may make a donation to the GGSM/Alliance Endowment Fund. Please contact the Society office at 336.297.1278 for further information. Your generosity will not only enable the fund to grow, but also sustains our ability to make a difference in the community.
