Medical Alliance Honor Fund

The AMA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the AMA. Since 1950, the Foundation has distributed $80 million in gifts to medical schools; guaranteed over $96 million in loans that have benefited more than 40,000 medical students, interns, and residents; and supported numerous research projects through its grants program. In addition to providing a permanent source of charitable monies to support the AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow scholarship program, the AMA Alliance Grassroots Honor Fund offers a special opportunity to create a lasting memorial to AMA Alliance members across the country who are making gifts in all amounts to help us achieve our ultimate goal of $250,000 in permanent endowment. The AMA Foundation has recently announced that once the fund is endowed, the first scholarship awarded will be in memory of John Lovin.

John Lovin was a dedicated member of the Alliance for more than twenty years serving in many county, state and national leadership positions. He served as the North Carolina Medical Society Alliance President from 1998-1999 and on the national level as AMA Alliance Treasurer in 2009 when he suddenly passed away. The scholarship awarded will reflect John’s determination to speak up for those without a voice of their own including women and children affected by domestic violence.

In lieu of our regular AMA-F campaign, our Alliance has decided to join with the State Alliance and contribute $500 as a Charter Donor. The state goal is $10,000. If you would like join in this effort you may make a personal donation to the AMA Alliance Grassroots Honor Fund in memory of John Lovin. Send your check payable to NCMS Alliance and mail to NCMS Alliance, P. O. Box 27167, Raleigh, NC  27611 by October 30, 2011. Include “Honor Fund” in the memo section.
